Upcoming STAAR testing

April 16, 2013
Dear Parent(s):
On April 23-24, students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the administration of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR.) The students in these grades will be taking the following tests:

April 23 Gr. 3-4 STAAR and STAAR-M Math
April 24 Gr. 3-4 STAAR and STAAR-M Reading
Gr. 5 STAAR and STAAR-M Science

The Texas assessment program is a state requirement and a meaningful part of Bryan ISD’s comprehensive assessment plan. The results help our teachers improve the instruction offered for all children and help us identify areas for remediation and acceleration for individual students. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, such as illness or an emergency, your child should be present to take the test.
Our staff has worked with the children on the entire curriculum that is assessed by STAAR. We believe our students will be successful. Please join us in supporting the efforts of our students. Thank you for respecting the closed campus request. This will help to assure a quiet and secure testing environment.
Encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep before the tests and make sure they are at school on time for each morning’s testing. While we know that there are many activities offered in the evening for our children, we would suggest limited activities the night before any testing. Children also perform best when they eat a good breakfast. Breakfast will be offered to all of our testing students at Houston the morning of each test.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns related to the state assessments.
