Bryan ISD Draft Facility Master Plan Proposals

Summary
For the past several months, a group of administrators, teachers, parents, business leaders, taxpayers and students have been meeting to discuss the needs of the Bryan Independent School District, with regards to facilities. This Long Range Master Planning Committee evaluated the needs of the existing school buildings, the demographics of the district, growth patterns, capacities, grade alignments and the need for new facilities. The committee also toured several of the buildings to develop a better understanding of the existing facilities, and the disparity between newer and older campuses.

A total of seven options  to solve particular issues were reviewed and scrutinized until one primary  option remained. This “2013/2014 Master Plan” option received a unanimous vote  by the committee and has been recommended for consideration by the Bryan ISD  Board of Trustees. An alternative plan (“Option A”) was also developed, should  the board decide against the grade realignment.

The “2013/2014 Master Plan” draft proposal, which is still under consideration by the board, involves:
• Modifying the existing grade alignment to Pre-K-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.
• Providing excess student capacity that could allow the District to repurpose an old Elementary School.
• Eliminating portable buildings.
• Completely renovating Milam and Ross Elementary Schools.
• Additional classrooms to several Elementary Schools.
• Repurposing Stephen F. Austin to an Administration Building.
• Constructing a New 5-6 Campus.

The alternative option (Option A) being considered by the board:
• Retains the current grade alignment.
• Provides excess student capacity that could allow the District to repurpose an old Elementary School.
• Eliminates portable buildings.
• Completely renovates Milam and Ross Elementary Schools.
• Adds additional classrooms to several Elementary Schools.
• Repurposes Stephen F. Austin to an Administration Building.
• Constructs a New 6th-8th Grade Campus
• Constructs a New Elementary School on the East side.
