Teacher of the Month for November

If you were to walk down our fourth grade hall during each class change, you will see our teacher of the month putting her training from Capturing Kids Hearts into action and greeting her students at the door. When you venture into the teacher of the month’s classroom, you enter a world of learning that’s vibrant and fun. You hear affirmations for the students and the teacher noticing students making appropriate choices. Our teacher of the month is Missy Martinez.
Mrs. Martinez’s room is a special place for her students. They know every day when they come into math, they will be safe, loved, and challenged. She strives daily to meet the needs of each of her students by differentiating her lesson. She stays aligned with the curriculum and does daily mastery checks in order to reteach. She spirals each day during bellringers to help with student mastery of lower SEs. Mrs. Martinez uses manipulatives to teach the foundation and concept of each new SE in math. She strives for her students to learn the concept and not just a strategy. Her students are engaged and rocking in math because of her enthusiasm and motivation. She shines and is in her element every day with her students. Mrs. Martinez’s love for learning is contagious to her students. Her students data is at the top of the district each and every time they do an assessment due to the engagement of her students in the lesson and her assessment of who needs reteach.
Mrs. Martinez recently went to the fourth grade horizontal meeting where she learned some new ideas about bell ringers and teaching strategies. She went home that very night and changed her presentation of part of her lesson for the next day by incorporating what she had learned at the meeting. She is willing to learn new techniques and implement ideas in the class to engage her students and help to meet their needs. She wants to hear students talking the math, encourages collaboration and develops most of her lesson to allow student movement. You might walk into her room and see students utilizing iPads or hands on math tools to gain deeper understanding of a concept.
A parent of a fourth grade student and a campus employee stated. “Mrs. Martinez has been an outstanding teacher to my child. I feel like she looks for the best in her students while always finding ways to stretch them more so that they can see their full potential. She is such a calming force not only to her team but to everyone around her. She keeps things in perspective and is not easily rattled. This is one of the qualities I admire most about her. You will always see her with a smile and a kind word, which I feel creates good relationships on our campus. “
This is the second time over the course of the last two years that Mrs. Martinez has been nominated as our Teacher of the Month. Missy Martinez is Bryan ISD.
