There are two after school music groups at Houston Elementary School, Music Club and Honor Choir.
Honor Choir is a district-wide collaboration. Eight fourth graders from every elementary school in our district are selected each year for their leadership abilities and musical skills to participate in the District Elementary Honor Choir. Four of these students have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at an Aggie Women's basketball game. These eight students are expected to practice after school in the spring semester to learn advanced levels of music. In April, all of their hard work pays off when they perform with their peers across the district in a concert for the community of Bryan. It is wonderful to see these students work hard and achieve beautiful music-making together.
Music Club is a wonderful after school program that gives students the opportunity to sing, dance, read, write and play instruments, as they make music with their peers. This is a fun time where we intertwine various aspects of fine arts to create musical performances. Students that are a part of Music Club get to create on their own and make their own choices about how to perform. We really emphasize group collaboration; music is a team sport! The team that plays together stays together!
